Compare & Beware - Common Questions when purchasing LED Signs

Outdoor LED Sign Displays are the most effective advertising & communication tool today.

adsLED has compiled a simple list that will help you compare all the quotes; to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. If you cannot find these items below, we recommend calling that company for more details.

Compare & Beware Checklist when purchasing an LED Sign:

1. Is the Pixel Matrix the same ?

Note: For example, 32 x 128

2. Is the Pitch the same ?

Note: For example, 17mm. The higher the pitch, the bigger the text.

3. Is the Viewing Angle the same ?

Note: 30-90 degrees is fair, 125-140 degrees is the best.

5. Are you getting an Illuminated Cabinet? If so, is it UL Listed & Approved ?

Note: Its about quality and safety. This means the cabinet was built to
meet UL specifications and labeled with a unique UL inspection number.

Literally, UL means "Underwriters Laboratories." Over a century old, UL is an organization that provides globally respected compliance and safety standards for millions of products, spanning numerous industries. Very exacting standards must be achieved in order for a product to be UL Listed, and we are proud to have all of our products certified and bearing the UL label.

4. Compare the warranty offered by each company for their LED Signs.

Note: A 5 yearr parts/factory labor warranty is standard on the display and
the communication devices (radios, modems, etc). Some companies offer onsite
labor for an additional nominal charge. Also, LEDs are rated for 100,000 hours of life,
about 11.3 years. Some companies offer a 10 yearr warranty based solely on this fact.
Read the warranties carefully.

5. Is Freight or Installation included ?

Note: These are hidden costs that can be expensive.

6. What Support will you receive ?

Note: 24 hr tech support, Software training & support, Toll-Free 800#, etc.

7. Experience. How long has the company been in business?

Note: Look for references, client lists, photos, or an online Photo Gallery or Testimonials.

Here are some additional factors to consider when narrowing down your options:

(1) Location. First off, if you have a space limitation in the location where you will be installing the sign, you should consider dimensions. Make sure the case of your display will fit within your constraints. The dimensions are noted below each model on our website.

(2) Objectives. LED signs are communication tools that solve problems, so you have to consider what needs to be accomplished by your sign to determine the most appropriate model. Consider the type of information you want to display, which determines the number of lines, as well as the number of characters across you need to show at one time. If you are going to use abbreviations versus words, for example, this will affect the size of display that you need.
It is a good idea to write down a message or messages that you will commonly use, and count how many characters (letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation) it takes. There is always scrolling capability if the message exceeds the size of the display, so this is a matter of preference and often budget.
(3) Viewing Distance. Another consideration is the distance of visibility you need to attain. This table shows what visibility distance can be achieved by each text height.
